Mönmo Tashi Chidren

མོན་མོ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྤྱི་འདྲེན། mon mo bkra shis spyi ‘dren originally named Tashi Khyeudren was the 8th century daughter of a Bhutanese king from Bhumthang. She is one of the five great spiritual consorts of Padmasambhava and an important devotee of Yeshe Tsogyal.  At the age of thirteen she came across Yeshe Tsogyal while the latter was meditating in a cave in Bhutan and was so struck by the great yogini that she became her life-long disciple. Noticing that Tashi Khyeudren possessed all the marks of a great dakini, Yeshe Tsogyal requested that the king give the girl to her, after which her name was changed to Tashi Chidren. Tashi Chidren travelled with Yeshe Tsogyal to Tibet and met Padmasambhava, who took her as his consort to perfect the Vajrakilaya practices through which he ensured the flourishing of the Buddhist teachings in Tibet.
